ABOUT SVS
"Sri Vivekananda Sevashrama (SVS)" is a registered charitable trust. It is a voluntary service organisation, providing medical aid to poor patients. A few voluntary workers who are closely associated with Ramakrishna Mission established this organization in 1975 in tune with the message of Swami Vivekananda - Service to man is Service to God.
The Sevashrama is located in Bangalore, the Garden City of India. The operations of the Sevashrama are spread into the interior parts of Karnataka. Started by dedicated people from middle class section of the society, the Sevashrama runs purely on donations. The Sevashrama is run by the voluntary services of a set of highly motivated volunteers.
The organisational implementation of the “Prevention and Control the Spread of STD/HIV/AIDS among tribals and others” revealed that the HIV/AIDS affected people should be taken care and bring into the fold of support to each other, Hence, SVS has approached the APAC (Voluntary Health Services, Chennai) and planned to involve in the care & support of 1500 to 2000 PLWHAs. These PLWHAs will be taken care in the aspects of housing, self employment and education facilities of PLWHAs.
A visit made by joint action team consisted of Dr.Madhavan Nair who is retired Director of Health Services, Dr.Manokaran of Perundurai Medical college Hospital, Dr.Jegadesan and Mr.Kandhavadivelu auditor were very impressed on the activities carried over and recommended the APAC to sanction AIDS Prevention / care and support project to the organization from AIDS Prevention program. Hence, in future apart of care & support of PLWHAs project also will be implemented for PLWHA all over the Erode district.
The Integrated tribal development project activities will be carried over and followed up in order to bring sustainability. More over, they have already conducted Participatory Rural Appraisal program in a target village called Thottankombai. In 7 talukas SVS will identify the neglected and marginalized hamlet and conduct PRA exercises to analyze the need form emancipating them from the down trodden. SVS planned to carry over these activities in the span of 3 to 5 years period and bring sustainability and generate peaceful survival.
